Training Services

New clients will start with an in-home initial consultation where we’ll discuss your goals and motivations for starting your training journey. We'll review your dog’s background, daily routine, temperament, and breed to uncover the causes of unwanted behaviors and the best approaches to take.

We’ll also cover essential tools for success, such as crates, slip leads, long-lines, muzzles, food rewards, treat pouches, "place" items, e-collars and more.

This is where we will make our recommendation on which training options would be best moving forward.

What is your style of training?

My training style prioritizes these methods:

  • Encouraging desired behaviors by building positive associations through rewards your dog finds motivating. Building trust with your dog is key; when they feel safe, they’re more likely to turn to you for help, listen and follow you.

    Rewarded behavior is repeated behavior.

  • Balanced training uses both rewards and fair corrections to create clear communication and set healthy boundaries. Corrections, when applied thoughtfully, keep dogs safe and help them understand what’s expected. These might include verbal cues, spatial pressure, a tap on the e-collar, or removing access to an object or space.

We also utilize a variety of training tools — such as food rewards, place cots, slip leads, prong collars, e-collars, and muzzles — depending on each dog’s needs and training goals.

Training tools are not shortcuts. When used responsibly, they provide clearer communication, improve safety, and support consistency. This makes it easier for owners to reinforce training in daily life, leading to lasting results.

  • Consistency is key in dog training. Inconsistency will confuse your dog, that’s why our training requires dedication from the owners to implement lifestyle changes to support their dog’s progress. Training takes time, patience, and often some trial and error — but you’re not alone in the process.

  • We always take a step back to look at the full picture and encourage owners to do the same. Our approach depends on the dog, the owner, and their lifestyle. Training isn’t one-size-fits-all, and sometimes we adjust our methods to fit what works best. Our goal is to make training practical and sustainable for everyday life.

What topics are covered during our sessions?

Whether you just brought home a new puppy, your dog needs a training refresher or they’re in need of behavior modification, we want to set you and your dog up for long-term success. The goal is to build a solid foundation of essential core concepts that promote good habits, safety, and a stronger bond.

Training sessions are tailored to fit your goals and specific challenges; some topics we will cover include:

  • Poor leash manners and pulling are some of the most common challenges dog owners face.

Loose leash walking teaches your dog to stay in your little bubble, attentively following your movements. They shouldn’t pull ahead, lag behind, or drag you in different directions.

Enjoying stress-free walks is key to bonding with your dog. Loose leash walking builds their focus on your guidance, fostering a more cooperative relationship. Your dog will learn to move when you move and stop when you stop, including practicing a “stop” command or the concept of an auto-sit.

  • Basic obedience may include, but are not limited to:

How to use marker words, yes work, crate training, potty training, sit, down, stop, release command (break), place training, threshold manners (entering/exiting doorways), recall/come.

  • Exposure and socialization training helps dogs become confident and well-adjusted. By gently introducing them to new sights, sounds, people, and environments, we build their comfort and adaptability.

When we say “socialization,” what we really mean is neutrality — teaching your dog to calmly observe the world without reacting to everything. This skill builds focus, impulse control, and confidence, helping your dog stay calm in everyday situations.

  • Behavior modification requires focused intervention. Our goal is to replace unwanted behaviors with more positive, appropriate responses. Whether your dog struggles with reactivity, aggression, or separation issues, we’ll guide you through the steps to create lasting change.

We may also suggest changes to your dog’s lifestyle, diet, or routine to support their progress. By addressing the root cause and using methods like desensitization and neutrality training, we help your dog respond more calmly to triggers.

This isn’t a quick fix — it’s a steady, thoughtful process that builds confidence and understanding over time.

The work we do together is just the beginning — your dog’s progress depends on regular reinforcement and continued structure at home. Lasting results come from treating training as a lifestyle, not just a temporary phase. Training is only as successful as the owner is consistent!
