Training Services

New clients will start with an in-home initial consultation where we’ll discuss your goals and motivations for starting your training journey. We'll review your dog’s background, daily routine, temperament, and breed to uncover the causes of unwanted behaviors and the best approaches to take. We’ll also cover essential tools for success, such as crates, slip leads, long-lines, muzzles, food rewards, treat pouches, "place" items, and more.

What is your style of training?

My training style prioritizes these methods:

  • Encouraging desired behaviors by building positive associations through rewards your dog finds motivating. Building trust with your dog is key; when they feel safe, they’re more likely to turn to you for help, listen and follow you.

    Rewarded behavior is repeated behavior.

  • Integrating other methods such as appropriate corrections/punishments when needed can be helpful. This is done thoughtfully and clearly to ensure your dog understands boundaries while being safe. This also helps us hone in on our communication skills with our dogs. Corrections can include things such as a leash pop, a tap on an ecollar, confiscation of a certain object or access to a specific space, or being taken out of a situation.

  • Consistency is one of the most important components to dog training. If there are any lapses in regularity, it will confuse your dog. That is why our sessions require dedication from the owners to implement lifestyle changes to support their dogs progress. There can be a lot of trial and error in training a dog so practicing patience is essential. You’re not alone in your struggles and these things take time.

  • We always take a step back to look at the whole picture and we encourage owners to do the same. Our approaches are dependant on the dog, owner and their lifestyle. Dog training is not a perfect science and sometimes modification in our methods is necessary. Our aim is to make training practical and sustainable in real-life situations.

What will we work on during our sessions?

Whether you’ve just welcomed a new puppy into your home, your dog needs a training refresher or your dog is in need of behavior modification, we want to set you and your dog up for long-term success. The goal is to build a solid foundation of essential core concepts that promote good habits, safety, and a stronger bond.

Training sessions are tailored to fit your goals and specific challenges; some things we may cover include:

  • Does your dog pull ahead on the leash, dragging you along on their own adventure?

Do you ever find yourself wondering who’s walking who?

Do they dart in all directions, leaving you tangled up or spinning in circles?

If so, you're not alone! Poor leash manners and pulling are some of the most common challenges dog owners face.

Loose leash walking teaches your dog to stay in your little bubble, attentively following your movements. They shouldn’t pull ahead, lag behind, or drag you in different directions.

Enjoying stress-free walks is key to bonding with your dog. Loose leash walking builds their focus on your guidance, fostering a more cooperative relationship. Your dog will learn to move when you move and stop when you stop, including practicing a “stop” command or the concept of an auto-sit.

  • Basic obedience commands may include, but are not limited to:

How to use marker words (yes work), crate training, potty training, sit, down, focus, release command (break), place training, threshold manners (entering/exiting doorways), recall/come.

  • Exposure and socialization training helps dogs grow into confident, well-rounded companions. By introducing them to new sights, sounds, smells, people, and situations, we build their comfort and adaptability in various settings. Through controlled exposure and positive reinforcement, we teach essential skills for handling the world around them. When we refer to "socialization", what we really mean is "neutrality".

Neutrality is the ability for your dog to calmly observe the world around them without feeling the need to engage with everything in sight. This skill promotes focus, impulse-control, self-regulation, and confidence, allowing your dog to navigate busy environments with calm and ease.

  • Behavior modification requires focused intervention. We’ll work to replace negative behaviors with more positive, socially appropriate responses. Whether dealing with reactivity, aggression, separation anxiety or other challenges, we’ll offer the guidance needed to create lasting change.

Lifestyle, diet, and routine adjustments may also be recommended to support your dog’s progress. By identifying the root causes and applying consistent methods like desensitization and neutrality training, we’ll help your dog develop healthier responses to triggers.

Please note that this is not a quick fix; it is a thoughtful process aimed at building your dog’s confidence and understanding over time.

Day Train

A day train is a perfect opportunity for your dog to integrate into daily life while tackling specific challenges they’re facing and receive proper exposure to triggers. There will be structured activities with downtime and self-regulation practice. Additionally, this time will allow me to do a thorough evaluation of your dog’s behavior. This is also really great for puppies to get socialization and exposure, in order to prevent behavior issues in the future.
